I've just started studying beginner's Chinese and was taught to say renshi ni hen gaoxing in class (and in my textbook) but, I was looking at another book and they used you jian dao ni, tai gaoxing. I think they mean the same thing. Which one is more proper to use?

认识 rènshi is closer to German 'kennenlernen'. 'Rènshi nǐ hěn gāoxìng' literally means 'To get to know you (I'm) happy'.

见 jiàn is strictly 'to meet'. 'YÒU jiàn dào nǐ, tài gāoxìng' means 'To meet you AGAIN, (I'm) so happy'. So it's not something you say on first meeting someone.

I see, so  Rènshi nǐ hěn gāoxìng is for the first meeting and  U jiàn dào nǐ, tài gāoxìng  is for when you've already met.

Thank you!
