In the US, it wouldn't be played in a government function because it's a Communist song, but you're free to play in your rally if you wanted. Vice president Zeng Qinghong issued an order "not to play or sing The Internationale in any provincial, city or county level party or party member meetings." Not unexpectedly, nothing of this is covered by the media in countries which are unwilling to abandon the "Communist China" rhetoric. Quote
