SEY Posted July 29, 2005 at 07:23 AM Report Share Posted July 29, 2005 at 07:23 AM I am wanting to correspond with business contacts in Mandarin. My computer has the standard UK software - Microsoft Office and operates via Windows XP. Does anyone know of any software I could purchase which would enable Mandarin to be typed and printed from my computer and has anyone purchased a Mandarin keyboard which has proved to be useful. geraldc Posted July 29, 2005 at 02:04 PM Report Share Posted July 29, 2005 at 02:04 PM If you've got XP, you've already got all you need to input Chinese already http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/handson/user/IME_Paper.mspx
Daan Posted July 29, 2005 at 03:55 PM Report Share Posted July 29, 2005 at 03:55 PM You could also consider NJStar's software (www.njstar.com), which I consider great software for typing Chinese characters. It uses bitmap fonts though, so if you want to print them, the quality won't be great. You can, however, buy a version that does contain TrueType fonts, but it costs money. laohu489 Posted July 29, 2005 at 11:17 PM Report Share Posted July 29, 2005 at 11:17 PM IME is simple and easy to use. Just go to control panel, languages, add language and you are there. It can be used in any program and it looks great printed. NJstar would mean low quality when printed and a lot of cutting and pasting. random Posted July 30, 2005 at 06:46 AM Report Share Posted July 30, 2005 at 06:46 AM I would have to agree that the integrated IME included with Windows XP is probably the best option. Although I will concede that NJStar is a fantastic program, especially for Cantonese speakers (jyutping support!), it is a little clunky by comparison; and I've noticed some fonts display oddly. Above all, the Xp IME is free..... *random*
