New Members JackGweilo Posted April 26, 2017 at 12:49 AM New Members Report Share Posted April 26, 2017 at 12:49 AM Hi Everyone, I am Jack and I have just joined this forum. I need some help with translating below sentence: 【題外話:均衡投資,戰勝通脹】傳統那套「只持有現金」或作「定期存款」的理財觀念已經行不通!當今通脹不斷蠶食購買力,衣食住行樣樣貴,究竟還有什麼出路?這便要了解什麼是「長線均衡股債投資法」 I know what it means in general but I would really appreciate if someone could translate it for me. Thanks in advance Jack

Luxi Posted April 26, 2017 at 09:47 AM Report Share Posted April 26, 2017 at 09:47 AM Reads very much like spam, but since you don't post a link or invitations to reply by PM, you may actually be the intended recipient of an unsolicited mail. If you really need a translation, Google Translate or Baidu 翻译 will give you a decent machine translation improved by the advertiser. Can't remember how many, 3 or 5 or more? That might be why there was no invitation.
New Members JackGweilo Posted April 26, 2017 at 10:43 AM Author New Members Report Share Posted April 26, 2017 at 10:43 AM Thanks for all the replies. The text is a title of an article about investing in balanced funds, which are supposed to be protection against inflation. I only have the title as the article is all in Chinese and there is no online version of it. I am expected to find relevant image for the article that is why I need a translation that is better than what Google Translate offers. Thanks. Luxi Posted April 26, 2017 at 08:18 PM Report Share Posted April 26, 2017 at 08:18 PM OK, here goes, human v. machines: Me (human), not having looked at the machine translation since early this morning...though I had to look at the dictionary because this isn't my usual vocabulary: Quote "Comment under the title: balanced investments beat inflation". Those traditional financial concepts "cash only deposits" or "fixed term deposits" no longer work! Today, inflation increasingly erodes purchasing power, all kinds of basic necessities are (ever more) expensive. Is there a way out, actually? This requires understanding "the principle of long-term balanced debt investment". Google Translate (machine, I think) Quote [Inscription: balanced investment, victory over inflation] traditional set of "only holding cash" or "time deposit" financial concept has been impracticable! Today's inflation continue to erode the purchasing power, basic necessities of life, what is the way out? It is necessary to understand what is the "long-term balanced debt investment law" Baidu 翻译 (machine also, with Google's help) Quote [Inscription: balanced investment, victory over inflation] traditional set of "only holding cash" or "time deposit" financial concept has been impracticable! Today's inflation continue to erode the purchasing power, basic necessities of life, what is the way out? It is necessary to understand what is the "long-term balanced debt investment law" It's possible that a human hand actually corrected Google's translation, which was also taken by Baidu (interesting find!). Anyway, my translation isn't significantly clearer than the machine. It's a draw! ..........And how does one find a relevant illustration for a balanced investment? dwq Posted April 26, 2017 at 09:53 PM Report Share Posted April 26, 2017 at 09:53 PM Just a few remarks: 題外話 is literally "a message that departs from the main subject", in other words, an aside / digression. 只持有現金 is not some specific financial concept, just a normal phrase. I find the machine translation more understandable for both of the above, actually. I think 股債 is short for 股票和債券, stocks and bonds. Debt is not a kind of investment, at least for common investors.
