Lu Posted April 27, 2017 at 09:54 AM Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 09:54 AM The first character is 淨, meaning 'clean, pure'. The traditional form is 淨, the simplified form is 净, so you have a hybrid here. A misspelling, basically. Of the second character I can only see the top half, if you want the meaning, please add a photo of the entire character. The calligraphy of both characters is rather ugly, unfortunately. Next time you want a Chinese character tattoo: 1) please don't, just get something else. A nice picture or a symbol you actually understand. 2) if you really must get a Chinese character, go to a tattooist who knows Chinese and calligraphy, to avoid mistakes.
Demonic_Duck Posted April 27, 2017 at 01:43 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 01:43 PM It's actually an 异体字 for 净 (浄). My guess is a Japanese variant?
Publius Posted April 27, 2017 at 01:59 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 01:59 PM Yes, Japanese variant. http://jisho.org/search?utf8=✓&keyword=浄
Lu Posted April 27, 2017 at 04:03 PM Report Share Posted April 27, 2017 at 04:03 PM Ah, I should have thought of that. So not a misspelling, it's just not Chinese. Still, without context (and tattoos are usually without context) people will think it's a misspelling.
lips Posted April 28, 2017 at 12:10 AM Report Share Posted April 28, 2017 at 12:10 AM It is misspelled. Should be a shugou(竖钩)instead of a shu (竖).
