Tiri Posted June 28, 2017 at 10:26 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 10:26 AM What about other scholarships? Like, can we get something in addition to this scholarship? 1 Quote
Tiri Posted June 28, 2017 at 10:41 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 10:41 AM And also Im afraid it wont be enough if we get a shitton of bills for water and electricity, which I have no idea how much it might be, it varies from dorm to dorm on my uni. Quote
Nhq0117 Posted June 28, 2017 at 10:43 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 10:43 AM Hi @Hero Kezia @sindy123 Heard back from the school overnight. Did you hear anything more about the admission package? Looks like it won't be sent to us till later. But then again I am in the US so it might take longer. I also thought our materials were already being reviewed by the CSC? 1 Quote
eshton Posted June 28, 2017 at 10:57 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 10:57 AM I got type B which is much more than got last I lived in Shanghai. Plus I can teach English on the say so I'm in 2 Quote
eshton Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:04 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:04 AM @TiriActually most scholarships don't allow you to have a previous scholarship. Personally I'm familiar enough with Shanghai to find some side work, that's how I'll make up any difference. 1 Quote
Tiri Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:08 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:08 AM @eshtonhow much would you say is enough to live in Shanghai then? Quote
eshton Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:14 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:14 AM I've lived in Shanghai on 1400 per month while staying in the dorm and no job. I personally think 1700 is enough to start. 2 Quote
sindy123 Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:20 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:20 AM @Tiri I have never lived in Shanghai before, but my friend did with a scholarship of 3000 and free dorm stay. They said that it's enough as long as you don't eat western food and often eat at the dormitory. Keep in mind that if you are non-asian, it is easy to find teaching or some modelling jobs. So I do think that 1700 would be enough without considering the accommodation expenses. Quote
Eng_Mar3329 Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:23 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:23 AM I hope you all are fine and doing great. Tiri Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:56 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:56 AM @Ramloc17 I want to believe it, but I can't risk it. Would you be so kind and ask your friends how much they spent on bills? I really need to know. I guess when my room gets cold in winter I can just chill in the kitchen xdd Quote
Ramloc17 Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:58 AM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 11:58 AM @ i will just give me an hour or so Quote
Baha Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:00 PM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:00 PM Do we need to pay for heating, water, internet etc. in dorms.? Quote
Ramloc17 Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:02 PM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:02 PM @i dont think so, I think you only have to pay for AC usage but ill confirm Quote
Tiri Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:11 PM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:11 PM @Ramloc17 Thank you so much! I owe you a beer! @Baha That would be awesome, but right now I'm paying everything from the Scholarship, electricity, water, wifi... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Shanghai is still under the magical frontier of heaters and you just use the ac in winter also... Quote
Ramloc17 Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:25 PM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:25 PM @Tiri msged a guy who lives in minhang campus dorms about the utilities. I dont think you need AC when living in shanghai, heating might be required during the winters though. Quote
eshton Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:27 PM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 12:27 PM @Ramloc17pm me for my wechat contact. Tbh I'm not going to stay in the dorms, I'm getting a place with my SO. But when I lived in Tongji dorms I only paid electricity. Quote
hejmeddig Posted June 28, 2017 at 01:27 PM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 01:27 PM Good luck to all those figuring out their plans. I am struggling hard with my decision as well. I seem to have received the A-type scholarship, need to decide if I'd rather continue my studies here in Denmark or move to China... quite a tough decision. 1 Quote
Nhq0117 Posted June 28, 2017 at 01:29 PM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 01:29 PM Hi @hejmeddig I got a message last night that the Scholarship documents were being forwarded by SJTU to the CSC for review and that admissions documents would be sent to me in July. Were u given a similar timeline? Quote
hejmeddig Posted June 28, 2017 at 01:33 PM Report Posted June 28, 2017 at 01:33 PM I got the same e-mail that you got, just need the CSC's final notice. Actually, I hope having recently applied through the university will not supersede my EU window application, I'd rather not have that one cancelled due to having been awarded the scholarship via university through SJTU (SJTU was the 3rd preference for me on mine, I have studied abroad there before for a semester and would rather see somewhere new, I will say though, that I absolutely loved my time there). 1 Quote
