New Members MegzU Posted May 22, 2017 at 06:56 PM New Members Report Share Posted May 22, 2017 at 06:56 PM Hello! I am studying Chinese at university and need to pick a Chinese name. I want it to be similar to my name Megan in that I would like it to start with an M. Also Megan needs 'beautiful pearl' in its meaning so I came up with 美珍 but is this a name that people actually have? do you have any suggestions? Thanks! 889 Posted May 22, 2017 at 07:35 PM Report Share Posted May 22, 2017 at 07:35 PM For what it's worth, I'll just mention that the Meghan-in-the-news is known as 梅根 in Chinese. As often pointed out here, a Chinese name should really be chosen by a well-read native speaker with a good ear who knows you personally. A name should match you, and only someone who knows you can do the matching. Further, personal and family names should also go together well, so unless you're planning on a two-character full name, we'd have to know what family name you're adopting.
Lu Posted May 23, 2017 at 08:14 AM Report Share Posted May 23, 2017 at 08:14 AM Some Googling turns up a number of women named 美珍, including a Taiwanese singer, so it's an existing name. Personally I think 美珍 sounds more like a real Chinese name than 梅根 (but 梅根 of course sounds more like 'Meghan'). I agree with 889 on the surname question.
陳德聰 Posted May 23, 2017 at 08:21 AM Report Share Posted May 23, 2017 at 08:21 AM 美珍 is absolutely a name, infinitely better than plum-root, but very plain. My sister's name is 丽珍, lol. It also evokes a middle-aged woman for me.
