igacave Posted June 3, 2017 at 02:19 PM Report Posted June 3, 2017 at 02:19 PM Hello everybody! It seems that I may be going to China (again). I have a unionpay card, which I haven't used for over a year. I do have some money on it. Is it possible for this card to work when I come back to China in September? It is not that this card is out of date or something, but do you know if they may block my card for not using it? Thankf for response Quote
imron Posted June 4, 2017 at 12:12 AM Report Posted June 4, 2017 at 12:12 AM I have used my ICBC unioncard for over a decade without replacement, including after long (multi-year) periods of inactivity. I would say it is likely you will be able to use it, but like all things in China, don't *rely* on it, and make sure you have other funds available. 1 Quote
889 Posted June 4, 2017 at 12:53 AM Report Posted June 4, 2017 at 12:53 AM If there's a problem -- and I agree that after just a year that's unlikely -- then head to the bank where you have your account and settle things out, keeping in mind that for most but not all Chinese banks you need to head to a branch in the same city where you opened the account. 2 Quote
