DCKelly09 Posted June 7, 2017 at 02:12 PM Report Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 02:12 PM Hello, I am writing a Fantasy fiction book set in the future. I want to include characters with names from different cultures, and have three sisters whose names begin with "Mei" The names i have chosen are: Meixi (a protagonist/main character, very adventurous) Meiwu (An antagonist, beautiful and conniving) Meihui (still developing this character) I can explain how I chose these, but would like to get first impressions. Any input and/or thoughts greatly appreciated!
Publius Posted June 7, 2017 at 02:47 PM Report Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 02:47 PM Meixi actually sounds pretty good. Probably because of Messi? LOL (梅西 in Chinese) Meihui is OK. But Meiwu is a bit awkward. I feel for it to work, 'mei' must have a different tone, thus cannot be the sister of the other two. Just my impression. And I'm not very good at choosing names.
889 Posted June 7, 2017 at 03:23 PM Report Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 03:23 PM I don't like the rhyming in Meihui. And Meiwu sounds like a good name only for someone who's not all there. Meixi sounds nice, but maybe inauspicious for a name depending on the tones of the characters you choose. (Think 没吸.)
Lu Posted June 7, 2017 at 06:22 PM Report Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 06:22 PM I like Meixi (beautiful hope?), Meihui sounds acceptable to me, and Meiwu sounds like her parents must have had a special reason to name her that, sounds unusual to me. I'm not a native speaker though.
Shelley Posted June 7, 2017 at 10:28 PM Report Share Posted June 7, 2017 at 10:28 PM What about Meimei for the youngest? One of its meanings is little sister, or just doubly beautiful. I have no expertise when it comes to names but this name is one I know as I named my youngest female cat that
DCKelly09 Posted June 15, 2017 at 11:31 PM Author Report Share Posted June 15, 2017 at 11:31 PM Thanks for the feedback! I know 美惠 is name that women have in CHina, like 文美惠. I'd like to stick with 美 as the first character. MeiMei would mean little sister, which is one idea I could use to add a little variety as a nickname
