Are you sure? Another person from China just told me that it was a folk song and they even learned it in school. Also there's versions of it on YouTube from before 1980.

Can you read Chinese?

《乡间的小路上》还被选入苏教版五年级教材中。

This song was included in the 5th-grade textbook published by Jiangsu Education Publishing House.

What do you mean by "versions of it on YouTube from before 1980"? This? Yeah, that's the original.

How old is your Chinese friend by the way?

We used to learn 學習雷鋒好榜樣 at school, in English (Learn from Lei Feng the good example / Be loyal to the revolution and our party). And I'm pretty sure it's not a folk song.

Sorry, I cannot read Chinese very well. :( I was looking for a result in English on Google... I couldn't find one.

I don't know how old he is (he's an online friend from a Facebook group :P).

And okay, I understand now. Thanks for your help! :D

Yes, most info seems to be in Chinese. He's probably too old. There's only a very short Wikipedia page in Chinese: https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/葉佳修. More details on this page: http://www.zwbk.org/zh-tw/Lemma_Show/137960.aspx (also in Chinese). This is his Sina Weibo (Chinese equivalent of Twitter) account: http://www.weibo.com/josephyeh?is_all=1.

Some of his best known works include:

鄉間的小路 -- written for 齊豫, first appeared in the album 《民謠風》(1978/海山唱片). He later covered it himself in his first album 《葉佳修》(1979/海山唱片).

Any Chinese person born before 1975 should be familiar with at least some of them.
