Hi guys, I'm using the Boya 2 book to improve my Chinese. And when I study 第七课, I come across this sentence: 公共汽车上人挤得满满的。(or 天蓝蓝的,云白白的,真漂亮啊)

I don't understand why 的 is used in this situation. I would be so thankful if someone can explain this to me :)

谢谢大家!

I found this explanation :

"Adjective reduplication is a common phenomenon in Chinese, usually used to emphasize the quality of the adjective. There are many different patterns for reduplicating adjectives, including AABB (e.g. 干干净净), ABB (e.g. 红通通) or BABA (e.g. 雪白雪白). When adjectives are reduplicated, they must be followed by a "的."

Also about 的 :

https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/的 : 的 has many different functions

https://www.chineseboost.com/grammar/de-after-adjectives/  : "Do put 的 after multi-syllable adjectives" [yes]/"Don’t put 的 after single-syllable adjectives" [in certain cases you can, when emphasizing the adjective and creating bisyllabic expressions like "好的"/or creating a noun like "男的"] )

HSK Standard Course 3 textbook explains the usage of AA的 (白白的, 蓝蓝的, 满满的) in Lesson 16 grammar 3, and I made a youtube video that explains it.  It's just a construction that 'softens' the adjective, as in English we say 'white-ish' 'blue-ish' 'full-ish' (ok maybe not full-ish but you get the idea)

Please don't link to your own stuff, Jon. Unless you also link to all the similar resources and explain why yours is best.
