Ian_Lee Posted August 3, 2005 at 08:34 PM Report Posted August 3, 2005 at 08:34 PM 头文字D -- a movie which mostly filmed in Japan with all Chinese movie stars acting as Japanese -- netted RMB 60 million in Mainland's Box Office. Other than the fans of Jay Chou, it seems the movie at least attracts some other audience. Even under the current prevalent anti-Japanese sentiment, Japanese-packaged commodity -- including movie -- still looks like hot items. Quote
ggonline Posted August 3, 2005 at 11:53 PM Report Posted August 3, 2005 at 11:53 PM "头文字D"根本就是日文嘛。 Quote
eddiewouldgo Posted August 4, 2005 at 02:32 AM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 02:32 AM 頭文字D = Initial D I think 頭文字(kashi moji/head character) is a japanese made word. Since we dont have the concept of initial in chinese, what's initial in Chinese?? Quote
流 Posted August 4, 2005 at 03:48 AM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 03:48 AM 顔文字 is a Japanese word (pronounced "Kaomoji") meaning "Emoticon." They are used quite often. http://www.diana.dti.ne.jp/~s-tuzi/ (In Japanese): A "kaomoji" site. ( ^-^)_且~~~ = Have some tea (or a bong, heh?). Quote
skylee Posted August 4, 2005 at 05:52 AM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 05:52 AM It is 頭文字 (イニシャル; initial), not 顔文字. Quote
xiaomawang Posted August 4, 2005 at 07:22 AM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 07:22 AM
Yuchi Posted August 4, 2005 at 08:34 AM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 08:34 AM I saw it when during my stay in Shanghai, I didn't think much of the movie itself because it seemed a bit too unrealistic (Maybe it was the dubbing). I liked it better when it was in animation format. Quote
hughitt1 Posted August 4, 2005 at 09:32 AM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 09:32 AM
skylee Posted August 4, 2005 at 09:53 AM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 09:53 AM Quote
Quest Posted August 4, 2005 at 07:15 PM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 07:15 PM Why are we all writing in Chinese now? Quote
Ian_Lee Posted August 4, 2005 at 07:33 PM Author Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 07:33 PM I haven't watched it yet but I am very eager to. Why? Because it is a new theme and a very bold attempt with sizable investment in production cost. Not too many entrepreneurs nowadays are willing to spend that much money on a movie that is so venturesome -- script straightly copied from Japanese manga with Chinese cast. Same with "Seven Swords". It is also a new theme and a very bold attempt Just based on the film crews' "sincerity", I will support them with my dollars. Quote
流 Posted August 4, 2005 at 08:03 PM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 08:03 PM It is 頭文字 (イニシャル; initial), not 顔文字. 頭文字 would still not be kashi moji, but rather kashiRA moji. Quote
eddiewouldgo Posted August 4, 2005 at 09:08 PM Report Posted August 4, 2005 at 09:08 PM Why are we all writing in Chinese now? Cause we are at chinese-forums.com Sorry I just couldn't help it. Quote
skylee Posted August 7, 2005 at 11:19 AM Report Posted August 7, 2005 at 11:19 AM A parody? T Quote
IvánQú Posted August 8, 2005 at 09:42 AM Report Posted August 8, 2005 at 09:42 AM Most anti-japanese types in China are relatively older and/or more conservative and would not be interested in a street racing movies with a pop star cast. I thought the movie was kinda sexist by not including some of the female drivers that are in the manga. And almost all the males smokes, just like the Manga; way to promote smoking in China. Quote
Battosai Posted August 12, 2005 at 07:51 AM Report Posted August 12, 2005 at 07:51 AM Are you sure about that? I'm from Shanghai as well and most anti- japanese I know are neither old nor conservative. I haven't seen the movie ,though. What language is it in? It would be stupid if it takes place in Japan , the characters are supposed to be Japanese but they speak in Mandarin. On the other hand I can't imagine Zhou Jielun speaking Japanese. Quote
geraldc Posted August 12, 2005 at 09:29 AM Report Posted August 12, 2005 at 09:29 AM It's in Cantonese in HK and dubbed into mandarin on the mainland. Quote
Lu Posted August 27, 2005 at 12:00 PM Report Posted August 27, 2005 at 12:00 PM But Zhou Jielun is Taiwanese, isn't he, does he speak Cantonese? And what's the big problem with movie-Japanese speaking Mandarin, the Americans have made (and still make) loads of movies with foreigners speaking English and that's no problem, apparently, for most people. Quote
Ian_Lee Posted August 29, 2005 at 07:22 PM Author Report Posted August 29, 2005 at 07:22 PM Lu: In order to have a wider appeal to a larger Asia market segment, most big Chinese movie production nowadays have multi-national cast. In this movie, there is actress from Japan (Suzuki), actor from Taiwan (Jay Chou), in addition to the HK cast. And in Jackie Chan's newest movie (to be released on September 20 and premiere in the People's Great Hall in Beijing), there are even Korean as well as Indian actresses in addition to the Chinese cast! Of course, when the movie is filmed, respective actors/actresses speak their own languages. Afterwards, it is dubbed into Cantonese/Mandarin/Japanese/Korean for different regions. And of course what you see in the movie is probably not the original voice of that actor/actress. But there are exceptions, i.e. Jackie Chan speaks in both the Mandarin/Cantonese versions. If you buy VCD of these movies, usually they come in the bilingual version and you can tell which actor/actress speaks in his/her original voice (sh) Quote
Quest Posted September 4, 2005 at 09:34 PM Report Posted September 4, 2005 at 09:34 PM I saw the Cantonese version, I think Jay dubbed his own voice, his Cantonese was okay. The movie itself wasn't that great, and Edison's acting was kinda bad. Boring movie... Quote
