Translation/Comprehension check for NPCR 2 dialogues.

Hi, I'm working my way through NPCR 2 and making flash cards out of the dialogue sentences in the book, but I've come across a few bits where I'm not sure I understand the exact sense of what they're saying. Can any of you help?

 

A：大为，你说昨天邮局的工作人员告诉你了，你听懂了没有？

B：我听懂了，可是记错了。

 

A: Dawei, did you understand what you said the person who works at the post office told you yesterday?

B: I understood, but I didn't write it down/ I wrote it down wrong?

 

The bit I'm having trouble with is 记错了. Does this mean not write down or write down incorrectly?

错 technically means "wrong", so I would say "write down incorrectly" is the better option. 

Also, the word 记 can either mean "remember" or "record (down)/write down". In this context, I can't really tell whether it means "remember incorrectly" or "record (down) incorrectly", so it should be up to the reader to interpret the meaning.

Absent any other context, remembered wrong.

In NPCR 2 lesson 18 记 is defined as to remember, in lesson 26 记得 is also defined as to remember. It doesn't give any other definition in the word list at the back of the book, so I would say that as far as this context it only means to remember.

Ah. I just thought 记 meant 'record'. I already knew the character so I didn't think to look at the definition in the word list! It makes sense now. Thanks.

There's also 记住, which means to memorize EDIT: remember, keep in mind or to learn by heart.

I'd say 记住 means "to remember".  If you want to memorize something, then you're going to have to 背 it.

You're right, and what I wrote would probably cause confusion. I wrote memorize but thought of it as in to learn a poem by heart or to remember a bunch of numbers in your head, not as in rote learning.
