Joining a chinese learning center...

Hello,

I want to learn Chinese. I have searched through the web and tried to learn the pronunciation and radicals etc... I found this forum and someone recommended to another newbie that they would be best off going to a university or joining a cultural group. I plan on taking Chinese this winter at my university, but I would like to get a deeper understanding of it now.

I remember my Korean friend growing up would always have to go to his Korean school at night where he would learn his native language and socialize with other Koreans. I wouldn't mind joining something like that near my place for Chinese language. Is something like this okay?? My only motive in joining a group like this would be to learn the Chinese language. I don't want to invade or be a pestialence. I am having a hard time finding something like this around my area. I also thought I would get a second opinion about doing something like this. Even if I'm not their nationality, is it okay???
