My chinese freinds all say ke li si will be the best name for me but I don't want my english name to be my chinese name! Whats a cool chinese name for a guy? Quote
ax Posted December 23, 2003 at 04:34 AM Report Posted December 23, 2003 at 04:34 AM you got a name ummm I name you 嗯 (en1) now all you need is to pick up a surname.... and moderator please merge this to "what's your chinese name" thread ax Quote
confucius Posted December 23, 2003 at 10:54 AM Report Posted December 23, 2003 at 10:54 AM Ke Li Si is a terrible name. Your Chinese friends are insane. I have much experience giving foreign people and companies Chinese names. An example of a cool Chinese name for a guy would be "Jun" (steed) It is not necessary for your Chinese name to be a direct transliteration of your English name. Be creative and have fun with it. ax Posted December 23, 2003 at 12:33 PM Report Posted December 23, 2003 at 12:33 PM try 陳金峰 sound like "曾經瘋" ... ax Quote
Quest Posted December 23, 2003 at 12:57 PM Report Posted December 23, 2003 at 12:57 PM 曾经疯? but why? 柯礼寺,or 柯理斯 are good, since 柯 is a last name. Quote
smithsgj Posted December 24, 2003 at 07:42 AM Report Posted December 24, 2003 at 07:42 AM Agree with Quest (I think). Just use your own name, or the closest available equivalent given the phonotactics of Chinese. If you were going to France, would you pick a special French name? I bet you wouldn't even call yourself "Christophe", just Chris, right? Quote
Quest Posted December 24, 2003 at 08:27 AM Report Posted December 24, 2003 at 08:27 AM 柯礼寺 doesn't sound good in Cantonese though. So 柯理斯 is probably better, but people would know it's a foreign name, since 理斯 is rare in Chinese names. Quote
ax Posted December 24, 2003 at 08:33 AM Report Posted December 24, 2003 at 08:33 AM I suggest picking a name that has nothing todo with your English name. Choose famous names in Chinese history, like zhugeliang, liubei, zhuyanzhang, cangjie. Well it's just a suggestion :-) ax Quote
confucius Posted December 24, 2003 at 03:05 PM Report Posted December 24, 2003 at 03:05 PM Go with "Jun" if you were born in the year of the horse! If you were born in the Rat year, then think of some other gimmick. If you want a name from Chinese history then consider none other than Cao Cao. Every time Chinese folks mention your name, you suddenly will appear out of nowhere. (shuo Cao Cao, Cao Cao jiu dao!) Quote
