xiahai Posted August 6, 2005 at 05:22 PM Report Share Posted August 6, 2005 at 05:22 PM Hi all, When typing Chinese in Wenlin using Microsoft IME, all I get is question marks. I can see characters properly when copying and pasting into Wenlin's browser. Any suggestions? Thanks.
889 Posted August 7, 2005 at 02:55 AM Report Share Posted August 7, 2005 at 02:55 AM What operating system are you using? On older Microsoft systems -- Windows Millennium, Windows 98, Windows 95, and Windows NT 4.0 -- IME only works in a limited number of so-called "supporting applications." This may well not include Wenlin. On Windows XP you shouldn't have any problem using IME in Wenlin. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/recommended/ime/default.mspx
atitarev Posted August 7, 2005 at 11:27 AM Report Share Posted August 7, 2005 at 11:27 AM I have Wenlin 3.2.2 working perfectly both on Windows XP and NT.
beirne Posted August 7, 2005 at 02:19 PM Report Share Posted August 7, 2005 at 02:19 PM I'm just curious, what are the benefits of using the Microsoft IME when entering data in Wenlin? The method built in to Wenlin shows definitions as you check the alternatives and allows tone entry to narrow the choices. I've never read instructions on the Microsoft IME so I may have missed something.
xiahai Posted August 7, 2005 at 08:02 PM Author Report Share Posted August 7, 2005 at 08:02 PM I have Windows XP and Wenlin 3.0. Sorry, I'm new to Wenlin, so I don't know how to type pinyin without setting my keyboard to Chinese (which means using IME, as far as I understand). Can you give me a lead? beirne Posted August 7, 2005 at 08:09 PM Report Share Posted August 7, 2005 at 08:09 PM Just type a word, with the tone mark after each syllable if you know it, then hit the slash (/) key. You will get a list of choices. If you wave the mouse over the choices you will get their definitions at the bottom of the Wenlin window. If you just want to look up a word, type Ctrl-L and then enter the pinyin as before.

perjp Posted August 8, 2005 at 07:05 AM Report Share Posted August 8, 2005 at 07:05 AM If you want to input text using the Windows IMEs in Wenlin, you have to upgrade to the latest version. Version 3.0 only gives you question marks, but this has been fixed in a later release. Get the upgrade from www.wenlin.com
