Outofin Posted August 7, 2005 at 03:44 AM Report Posted August 7, 2005 at 03:44 AM I can clearly see that some poems of Mao Zedong will last over time just like those great pieces from Tang and Song dynasty. I give him a A, if not A+. I bring up the topic because I'm curious how people outside mainland read his poems. I would assume they were banned in Taiwan for a long time. Do you know about the poems? Do you like them? I found it amusing that in the movie Swordman, Invincible Dawn said 江山如此多娇,引无数英雄竟折腰。 Quote

LeafAndSunshine Posted August 7, 2005 at 05:59 AM Report Posted August 7, 2005 at 05:59 AM Mao is an absolutely amazing poet. Compared with the ancient poets, Mao's work focused more on the positive and grand aspects of China and the Chinese people. Reading Mao's poems would make any Chinese feel really pride of being a Chinese. Quote
Outofin Posted August 7, 2005 at 01:11 PM Author Report Posted August 7, 2005 at 01:11 PM I don't entirely agree with you on ancient poets. They had 2 different styles, 豪放 and 婉约. To categorize this way is a little dumb, but... you got my point. Quote
shanghaimm Posted August 7, 2005 at 07:40 PM Report Posted August 7, 2005 at 07:40 PM It is a pity that many people in China do not appreciate Mao's works now. Quote
Outofin Posted August 8, 2005 at 09:06 PM Author Report Posted August 8, 2005 at 09:06 PM I think they’re still very populous. Some have been tightly linked to our life. Like, Wu Han people often quote 茫茫九派流中国,沉沉一线穿南北 when they talk about their home town; Chinese ambition on Three Gorges Dam is well described by 神女应无恙, 当惊世界殊. Other famous pieces that have been quoted by too many people and articles: 雄关漫道真如铁, 而今迈步从头越。 宜将剩勇追穷寇, 不可沽名学霸王。 牢骚太盛防肠断, 风物长宜放眼量。 Quote
