fenlan Posted August 7, 2005 at 03:46 PM Report Posted August 7, 2005 at 03:46 PM I have 7 Chinese songs in my Windows Media playlist, mostly redolent of my time in China. I think most of these were popular in the early 1990s and they are mainly "foreign student songs". What I mean by that is that they were popular among foreign students for being relatively easy to understand. They are: 1. 明明白白我的心 2. 哭砂 (by Ye Qianwen) 3. 东方之珠 4. 你知道我在等你吗?(Zhang Hongliang?) 5. 让我欢喜让我忧 6. 夜未央 (by Tan Yonglin) 7. A recent addition: 就像老鼠爱大米 Can anyone recommend more easy listening type songs from China? Quote
Outofin Posted August 7, 2005 at 04:52 PM Report Posted August 7, 2005 at 04:52 PM Easy to listen? That would exclude rock music, which is my favorite. I'm listening 刘若英's 四月天 lately. That's quite slow. And, really, it's touching. Quote
gato Posted August 7, 2005 at 06:06 PM Report Posted August 7, 2005 at 06:06 PM I like Tarcy Su (苏惠伦). Try these songs by her: 恋恋真言 苏慧伦 http://www.gzsway.com/wwwbak/zxcf/rm/llzy.rm Lemon Tree http://www.yrcccab.com/lb5000/non-cgi/usr/15/15_1252.mp3 我离开 http://net-sky.com/html/rm/15315.html More at http://net-sky.com/html/singer/526.html Quote
badr Posted August 30, 2005 at 02:23 PM Report Posted August 30, 2005 at 02:23 PM for my money, I'll take Wang Faye and Si Qin Ge Ri le. Si Qin's new album is called 我自己 and is just fantastic. Quote
Song You Shen Posted August 30, 2005 at 04:58 PM Report Posted August 30, 2005 at 04:58 PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that Fenlen is talking about songs where the singer is singing clearly. These songs are easy to understand because the words are pronounced clearly (and sometimes slow). This makes it "easy to listen" to. It is just a coincidence that most songs that are easy to understand tend to be slow or soft sounding songs. Youshen Quote
gougou Posted August 31, 2005 at 01:44 AM Report Posted August 31, 2005 at 01:44 AM When needing recommendations for contemporary Chinese music, I check out the new songs at baidu.com. Most of these would fall under easy listening. Quote
trevelyan Posted August 31, 2005 at 04:53 AM Report Posted August 31, 2005 at 04:53 AM Roddy has a blog that lists a few songs -- users can add their own if they want. The site is a bit barren right now, but all of the songs listed there are good. Wang Fei's "buliu" is actually a favourite of mine... http://www.pinyinlyrics.com Quote
zhwj Posted August 31, 2005 at 06:17 AM Report Posted August 31, 2005 at 06:17 AM 《歌》 by 罗大佑 (who did 《东方之珠》) probably meets your requirements. And the lyrics are a poem translation by 徐志摩, so it's nice and high-culture...罗大佑 also has 《童年》 which is more of a sing-along that everyone knows. Most of the songs sung by 童安格 are easy-to-understand ballads. 《明天你是否依然爱我》 and 《其实你不懂我的心》 are most representative. (and if you're going for 苏慧伦, don't miss 《OK?OK!》, especially if you can get ahold of the video. The comical attempts of Richie Jen to rap makes it not really "foreign student" material, though.) fenlan Posted August 31, 2005 at 06:55 AM Author Report Posted August 31, 2005 at 06:55 AM I don't think I am interested in "rap" in any language - I don't categorize it as music. Quote
roddy Posted August 31, 2005 at 10:33 AM Report Posted August 31, 2005 at 10:33 AM Roddy has a blog that lists a few songs --http://www.pinyinlyrics.com That one's not quite ready for public consumption yet, although you're free to look around. I'm currently working on a user-friendly method for posting, so people can add their own songs to the database. Roddy Quote
