DuShu proposal is to gradually hide pinyin fon known words, so it is easier to concentrate on Hanzi. If the skill level is higer, we need less phonetic help, but if there's some doubt we can reaveal the pinyin for each character. I tested it and I think that Android DuShu app has some really interesting ideas.
