Wu Wei and its appropriateness

Recommended Posts

Hi all :) Im looking at getting Wu Wei as a tattoo. Would someone be able to to check these versions of the characters and also give me their translation of Wu Wei. I would also like to know if Wu Wei would be considered an "appropriate" tattoo or would people think that it is strange?? Thanks in advance

Seriously?

I think the calligraphy in those pictures looks fine.  However, I'd think very carefully before getting this tattoo.  Having "wu wei" tattooed on yourself doesn't really seem very "wu wei" to me.

And generally, I'd be reluctant to have a tattoo of something that I didn't really understand fully - and as far as "wu wei" is concerned, people have written books on what it might mean.

Sorry I think there might have been a bit of confusion with what I was trying to say but that’s ok, what you said did help :)

Also I have researched Wu Wei and what it means myself but I am being cautious and that is why I would like others to assist :)

The calligraphy is beautiful, but don't get this as a tattoo. If you need to ask for help on the concept, you don't understand it enough to put it on your skin permanently.

Perhaps consider getting it on a nice scroll to put on your wall instead.

If you like the concept, want an exotic-loooking tattoo, but your Chinese is not good enough for you to be able to understand what your permanent tattoo means (you would never be able to see if there is a typo, always have to rely on what other people tell you), you can try the alternative: laissez-faire.

If you find tattooing laissez-faire would be a weird thing to do, then don't get this tattoo.
