Joldo Mundus Posted August 9, 2005 at 02:50 AM Report Posted August 9, 2005 at 02:50 AM When starting a letter, how do you write 'Dear X Family' in Mandarin Chinese? Quote
Daan Posted August 9, 2005 at 08:39 AM Report Posted August 9, 2005 at 08:39 AM 亲爱的X家庭? I'm a beginner so you'll definitely want to wait until somebody with more knowledge replies, though ;) Quote
Joldo Mundus Posted August 9, 2005 at 11:43 AM Author Report Posted August 9, 2005 at 11:43 AM That's one of two things I found possible. But yes, that seems most logical. 谢谢! Quote
chenpv Posted August 9, 2005 at 03:03 PM Report Posted August 9, 2005 at 03:03 PM Joldo, while i am a chinese, but to be frank, i am not so sure what kind of letter u are trying to write. so i cannot give you a exact translation to that. while it seems to me that you are trying to write to several persons. my suggestion is that u give all the names one by one in a reasonable order with proper titles. examples: 亲爱的爸爸、妈妈: (we are not saying 'dear parents') 尊敬的X教授,X 教授 (suppose they are a couple) if u are close to the family, u can just directly write to the host, its not the tradition to mention the hostess and the children right at the beginning, but u can greet them in the letter. Joldo Mundus Posted August 9, 2005 at 11:03 PM Author Report Posted August 9, 2005 at 11:03 PM This is as in the following. Dear X Family, Thank you for the thing.... Et cetera. Also, how does one say godparent in Mandarin Chinese? Quote
chenpv Posted August 10, 2005 at 03:17 AM Report Posted August 10, 2005 at 03:17 AM Joldo, the most traditional way is to say: 亲爱的干爸,干妈: and at the end of letter , you may address : 干儿子,XXX。 Quote
