fenlan Posted August 10, 2005 at 08:21 AM Report Share Posted August 10, 2005 at 08:21 AM Hello, I downloaded the Adso dictionary, but I am not sure what programme I need to open it. Is it in a format that can only be looked at on a Palm Pilot?
trevelyan Posted August 11, 2005 at 06:09 PM Report Share Posted August 11, 2005 at 06:09 PM The software and database are both open source. Send me a private message or email if you would like a link to the source download. The source code is in C++ and compiles on any platform which supports GNU G++. It is also known to compile without any problems in Visual Studio C++ under Windows. The database is available in either SQLite or MySQL format. Actually, its available in any format someone wants to take the time to convert it to. Its easiest for programmers to use SQLite, but using the MySQL version speeds things up slightly because the database optimizes table access. There is an (older) version of the database that has been formatted for use with the Plecodict software, but other than that there is nothing that makes Adso particular to the Palm Pilot. It is possible to port and use the database on a variety of platforms. We have scripts that can format the output for other projects as required. Since everything is volunteer driven, the only real limitation is someone finding the time to convert it, etc. If you have any problems or suggestions, or want a copy of the source/database eel free to email or pm me privately. --david .
