happy_hyaena Posted January 6, 2018 at 12:57 AM Report Posted January 6, 2018 at 12:57 AM What does "African Restaurant" mean? Quote
ChTTay Posted January 6, 2018 at 01:32 AM Report Posted January 6, 2018 at 01:32 AM Stating the obvious but ... A restaurant that serves cuisine found in Africa. If there is an African population there, then there may be some restaurants as well. A quick bing search and I’ve found a few restaurants in Guangzhou that are either called “African restaurants” or specific food from the region (I found a Angolan one). Beijing has a hit or two for South African food, mostly in the form of meat. As for the OP, is there an African population or association (perhaps students?) in Guiyang? If so, seek them out. When I was at Tsinghua a restaurant opened up nearby to cater for the number of African students who were living there. Quote

Does he want Injera? Ugali? Maybe some jollof rice, and if so, Naija or Ghanaian? In all of my life as an African I've never heard someone say "I want some African cuisine". It's as vague as wanting "Asian cuisine", which would include everything from Biryani Rice, Dim Sum or Bibimbap. Quote
ChTTay Posted January 6, 2018 at 11:28 AM Report Posted January 6, 2018 at 11:28 AM Haha I see your point but ... English speakers here say “Western food” all the time! Myself included. It’s not like they want something specific necessarily, just not Chinese and from “The West”. I can see how it would be easy to be like “just give me middle eastern food” or “I want African food!” Too Quote

I don't think he can be that specific to look for regional dishes Quote
