georjungcocaine Posted January 10, 2018 at 06:47 PM Report Posted January 10, 2018 at 06:47 PM Just as 'google translate app' does, an icon must pop up only after selecting text, and then choose whether to see the entries. Secondly, activate this app by using a keyboard key. Lastly, the keyboard shortcuts appear every time the app is ativated, which is tiresome. Any suggestions? Quote

Publius Posted January 10, 2018 at 07:51 PM Report Posted January 10, 2018 at 07:51 PM These are design choices. To change them you need to contact the developer. These "popup dictionaries" are all based off a Firefox add-on called Rikaichan, and there's a reason why hover-over is used instead of text selection. In Western texts using an alphabet, you double click a word to select it. In Japanese and Chinese however, double click will select the whole paragraph, because there is no space between words. Do you really want to drag your mouse around to select a word that has no apparent boundary and could be spanning two lines? Plus hover-over allows the program to try maximum match for idioms, set phrases, complex verb conjugations etc. It's in fact a superior technique. As for keyboard activation, there should be extensions that allow users to define a hotkey to simulate a mouse click. I don't use them myself, but maybe somebody else can help you. Quote
