889 Posted January 12, 2018 at 11:44 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2018 at 11:44 PM An apocryphal Chenghua reign mark. (The mark looks a bit odd because it was carved upside down for some reason.)
NaytanDova Posted January 12, 2018 at 11:51 PM Author Report Share Posted January 12, 2018 at 11:51 PM Haha, it’s most likely a mistake on behalf of the photographer. A.k.a. Me I can turn it round for you now if it helps you read it
lips Posted January 12, 2018 at 11:56 PM Report Share Posted January 12, 2018 at 11:56 PM 成化年造 Made in the reign of Emperor Chenghua (of the Ming Dynasty). There are many, many fakes. The character 成 is also incorrectly written on this stamp.
889 Posted January 13, 2018 at 12:03 AM Report Share Posted January 13, 2018 at 12:03 AM "The character 成 is also incorrectly written on this stamp." As is Ming in the preceding post (not that I see how 成 is incorrectly written).
lips Posted January 13, 2018 at 04:58 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2018 at 04:58 PM My bad, "Mind" corrected to "Ming".
889 Posted January 13, 2018 at 06:14 PM Report Share Posted January 13, 2018 at 06:14 PM I believe that the "closed gap" has been an accepted variant since the time of Chenghua. The marks shown here are from museum pieces: https://alaintruong2014.wordpress.com/tag/chenghua-mark-and-period/ (I'm assuming that if you screwed up the calligraphy of the emperor's name on the emperor's tableware, you'd lose your head.)
