MangoESL Posted February 1, 2018 at 04:00 AM Report Posted February 1, 2018 at 04:00 AM China wont block people based on skin colour. I also doubt Germans and Finnish people have been banned from teaching in China. I think you'll find that a foreigner can only teach their native language. So if they were to teach German and Finnish respectively, they'd be fine. However, if they wish to teach English, they're out of luck. If a Chinese person can do a job, they don't want a foreigners doing it. • A Chinese person can't be a native English speaker. • A Chinese person can be a non-native English speaker. @Pianote If you're from one of the countries below you should be fine. As for your age question, if you're under 60 there's not much to worry about. Nationality + Bachelor+ + (2 years XP or relevant degree or master's degree) Nationalities for English Teachers 阿森松、英属南极领地、福克兰群岛(即马尔维纳斯群岛)、英国格恩西岛、马恩岛(英属爱尔兰海域领地)、泽西岛、 塞浦路斯的亚克罗提利与德凯利亚的英属地区 Ascension Island、British Antarctic Territory、Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas)、Guernsey、Isle of Man (British Irish Sea Territory)、Jersey Island、Cyprus's subcrotti and the British region of Dekalia (Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia??) Anguilla 安圭拉 Antigua and Barbuda 安提瓜和巴布达 Australia 澳大利亚 Bahamas 巴哈马 Barbados 巴巴多斯 Bermuda 百慕大 British Indian Ocean Territory 英属印度洋领地 British Virgin Islands 维尔京群岛(英属) Canada 加拿大 Dominican Republic 多米尼加共和国 Gibraltar 直布罗陀 Grenada 格林纳达 Guyana 圭亚那 Ireland 爱尔兰 Jamaica 牙买加 Montserrat 蒙特塞拉特 New Zealand 新西兰 Pitcairn Islands 皮特凯恩岛 Saint Helena 圣赫勒拿 Saint Kitts and Nevis 圣基茨和尼维斯 Saint Lucia 圣卢西亚 Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 圣文森特和格林纳丁斯 Singapore 新加坡 South Africa 南非 South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands 南乔治亚和南桑威奇群岛 Trinidad and Tobago 特立尼达和多巴哥 Turks and Caicos Islands 特克斯和凯科斯群岛 United Kingdom 英国 United States Virgin Islands 维尔京群岛(美属) USA 美国 This is the list SAFEA gave me. I also expect Dominican Republic is a mistake and should be replaced by the other Dominica. Quote
Hayden05 Posted February 1, 2018 at 08:50 AM Report Posted February 1, 2018 at 08:50 AM So only African countries where English is the official language are banned. Even Guyana made it. Hilarious. Quote
889 Posted February 1, 2018 at 01:12 PM Report Posted February 1, 2018 at 01:12 PM Singapore but not Malaysia's a bit curious. Quote
roddy Posted February 1, 2018 at 01:32 PM Report Posted February 1, 2018 at 01:32 PM It's not going to be just based on language spoken. I don't know what the full range of factors are, but how often people from a certain country have overstayed or been found to be otherwise problematic will be issues. Quote
MangoESL Posted February 1, 2018 at 11:12 PM Report Posted February 1, 2018 at 11:12 PM @Hayden05 That's the list of nationalities that are allowed to teach English, not a list of countries that are banned. Quote
roddy Posted February 2, 2018 at 09:46 AM Report Posted February 2, 2018 at 09:46 AM Actually that does look a lot like a 'no Africans, thanks' list. Apart from South Africa I don't think there are any of the English-speaking African nations. Quote
edelweis Posted February 2, 2018 at 10:18 AM Report Posted February 2, 2018 at 10:18 AM I am not aware of the educational system in African countries that use English as a national language. Do they have 100% taught in English primary schools? what about secondary schools and universities? Do they have English language kindergartens? In short, do they have the kind of English language schools that are equivalent to the Mandarin language schools in China, in order to produce "native speakers"? Quote
roddy Posted February 2, 2018 at 10:33 AM Report Posted February 2, 2018 at 10:33 AM Actually the UK government's list of countries where a degree exempts you from English language requirements is even shorter https://www.gov.uk/tier-4-general-visa/knowledge-of-english Quote
