Highest compliment is no compliment

In China it really isn't like that.  I knew a "left-handed" person whose father hit them whenever they tried writing with their left hand.

I’m aware.

 

It’s just like when my grandma was in school the left hand was the sign of the devil. 

 

Attitudes here are changing as they did in the U.K. I have had left handed students and the parents are fine with it.  I’m not saying they’ll change overnight but it’s happening slowly.

I tell myself that too, instead of worrying too much about whether I'm saying things exactly right. "If I had been raised in an ethnic minority family in some far corner of Yunnan, my Mandarin probably wouldn't be brilliant and you would still manage to understand me."
