opper567 Posted August 11, 2005 at 03:46 PM Report Share Posted August 11, 2005 at 03:46 PM I just finished an intensive elementary Chinese college course in the US and now I'm looking for a good Traveler Guide book to learn some set phrases since I can already pronounce Chinese decently enough. I want the traveler guide book to use pinyin transliteration and simplified characters.
badr Posted August 20, 2005 at 10:55 AM Report Share Posted August 20, 2005 at 10:55 AM avoid the new lonelyplanet mandarin phrase books. They don't use real pinyin which can be a pain in the behind. The rough guide has a nice one if you can find it.
laohu489 Posted August 20, 2005 at 03:47 PM Report Share Posted August 20, 2005 at 03:47 PM My Lonely Planet Mandarin phrase book uses pinyin. When I used a phrase book, it was the only one I trusted.
badr Posted August 20, 2005 at 04:02 PM Report Share Posted August 20, 2005 at 04:02 PM My old one used pin yin and I loved it too. Then came that dreaded KTV night where it misteriously vanished and I had to get me a new one.... much to my surprise, it had some pinyin but most of it was in this weird romanization of the characters which was directed towards tourists. Check it out next time you're in the bookstore.
