lakerol Posted February 8, 2018 at 05:09 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2018 at 05:09 PM 大家好, I live in Spain and I have some friends are adoptive parents to two kids who were born in China (aged 2 and 12 years old); the father has actually some basic Chinese command, the older child does not. they would like to print some T-shirts with some sort, fun, inspirational sentence / quote which would be suitable to be printed on a child's T-shirt . It would be handmade and I'd write the characters down for them. Any sugestions on this ? IS there any famous saying or proverb (not very long, around 15-20 chars max) which you would suggest?

Jim Posted February 8, 2018 at 06:32 PM Report Share Posted February 8, 2018 at 06:32 PM Might not be everyone's idea of fun but this from the Analects would be punchy: 毋意、毋必、毋固、毋我 http://ctext.org/analects/zi-han#n1313 Found this translation too: The Master forbade four things: One must not act on guesses, one must not demand absolute certainty, one must not be stubborn, one must not insist on oneself. EnergyReaper Posted February 9, 2018 at 12:49 AM Report Share Posted February 9, 2018 at 12:49 AM Hello, I strongly recommend a web site of the brand -plastered 8 , which was created by Dominic Johnson-Hill(Chinese name:江海森), a famous British guy living in Beijing for about 20 years. I think you can find what you really want there. Just contact with them. Hope it helpful.
Wippen (inactive) Posted February 9, 2018 at 08:18 AM Report Share Posted February 9, 2018 at 08:18 AM What about 脱颖而出 does that work since they obviously do stick out, or would that not be suitable?

imron Posted February 9, 2018 at 03:11 PM Report Share Posted February 9, 2018 at 03:11 PM If either of them are boys I'd go with 有其父必有其子 (like father like son).

Because it can be used both positively and negatively. To me it's more often used negatively, like you're accusing their father of something.
