Xiao Kui Posted February 24, 2018 at 02:55 PM Report Posted February 24, 2018 at 02:55 PM This evening I happened to see them draw the pick 5 for the China Sports Lottery while I was watching a movie on CCTV. When I saw the number was 44454 I was curious as to how many Chinese would have picked it, and only 50 did, but over 16,000+ got the first 3 digits 444 as their pick 3 (I am assuming 注数 means the number of winners, please correct me if I'm wrong.) On one hand I'm surprised that 16,000 would pick 444 as a lucky number, but on the other hand I used to sell NY Lotto tickets when I worked at a drugstore while in college and do realize that 3 of a kind is a common pick 3. I've always been told 4 is unlucky, but is there also a trend of treating it as lucky precisely because it's unlucky? Anyway, the sports lottery page is pretty neat in and of itself - you can click on the icons for stats and it lists the number of winners, total payout, and amount of jackpot that rolls over to the next drawing. I am not really a numbers person, but if you like statistics you could really geek out on it and learn some Chinese lottery jargon ;) http://www.lottery.gov.cn/ Quote
