ZC Posted March 15, 2018 at 08:47 AM Report Posted March 15, 2018 at 08:47 AM Today I explained that when someone in English says “hit someone up” they are referring to a greatly different action than hitting someone. That made me think, especially to people who learned English as adults/older children, what were/are the most confusing English idioms to learn for you especially those in common usage in common usage Quote
somethingfunny Posted March 15, 2018 at 09:20 AM Report Posted March 15, 2018 at 09:20 AM Even as a native English speaker, it took me a while to really understand what people were talking about when they said "you can't have your cake and eat it". I've discussed this previously, with reference to the common translation 鱼与熊掌,不可得兼 for anyone interested. 1 Quote
