And if you want to try out your wok some day when you have more time, perhaps on a weekend, here's a simple popular dish that you have probably eaten at a restaurant. Scrambled eggs and tomatoes, fanqie chao jidan 番茄炒鸡蛋。

If you have some left-over rice from the day before, you can turn it into a fried rice one-dish meal by adding the cold, pre-cooked rice at the very end. Use more rice than scrambled eggs and tomatoes, about two to one. Break up the rice before adding it to the wok so it will cook evenly and fast. Use high heat (if cooked too slow it will become a soggy stew.)

I second this. It's far more productive than language exchange, doubly so if the people with the shared interest don't speak any English.
