Marcela Posted March 20, 2018 at 10:06 AM Report Share Posted March 20, 2018 at 10:06 AM Can anyone explain why 的 is used here? I’ve seen it being used in this way in other sentences as well but I don’t get it. “让我很开心的” ”我帮你的” 谢谢你们!
Shelley Posted March 20, 2018 at 05:57 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2018 at 05:57 PM I can't explain it as well as Chinese grammar wiki can. Have a look here https://resources.allsetlearning.com/chinese/grammar/Structural_particle_"de" Hope this helps.
Publius Posted March 20, 2018 at 06:22 PM Report Share Posted March 20, 2018 at 06:22 PM If it's sentence final, then it's either a modal particle de or part of the shi...de construction (in which 'shi' can be omitted). The examples you cited don't seem like well formed sentences. Are you sure they are correct? Where did you see them? Are they responses to questions? If so, what are the questions? irene001 Posted March 21, 2018 at 09:03 AM Report Share Posted March 21, 2018 at 09:03 AM Hi Marcela, it's more used in oral Chinese. You know oral Chinese can be more flexible. You couldn't use it in some formal papers. But if you are chatting with friends, you can text like that. You may see the "的" as a past form in the second sentence. "我帮你的" which means it's me who helped you. There are a lot other examples in this way. Like "我给你借的书你看过了吗?"“你帮我买的水果很好吃” For the first sentence, are you sure there wasn't a "是" following "的"? I guess the whole sentence should be "让我开心的是", which means what makes me happy is.... Hope this could be helpful.
