Reborn from the ashes

Please help me to translate this phrase:

Reborn from the ashes

In Google Translator it goes like this:

Simplified Chinese: 从灰烬中重生

Traditional Chinese: 從灰燼中重生

Which one is more correct? Both? None?

Thank you!

Both are the exact same sentence, just in a different character set. You can read about the difference on Wikipedia.

The sentence seems like a decent translation of the phrase. But don't get this as a tattoo please.

Hi Lu!

Thank you for your reply.

Why do you say "don't get this as a tattoo please" ?

I am going to explain the meaning:  i was a smoker for 24 years and now that i finally stopped i want some small reminder on my forearm or wrist of the battle it was for me to stop killing myself with smoke and ashes. I am planning to make a small tatto on one of those postions attached in the photos.

That is a nice idea! Consider getting it in English (or another language that you understand), in a font you like. This way, you can actually read what the reminder says.

The phrase in that Chinese translation doesn't sound as elegant to me as the English original does. Also, unless you find a tattoo artist who actually knows Chinese, there is a major risk that the tattoo goes slightly wrong (a stroke too few or too many, ugly calligraphy), or worse: very wrong (characters mirrored or upside down).

And congratulations on quitting smoking!

Because it doesn't matter how good the translation is, it's still a machine translation. If (and it's an enormous if) anyone Chinese was going to do this, they wouldn't come up with an English phrase, then get Google to translate it into Chinese for them. Chinese has its own more elegant ways of expressing similar ideas.
