I take it the first pic is the reverse of the second? It's a military award/commendation, '二等功臣' second class meritorious officer(reads R to L in second pic, large character centre green background is 功 merit)

First pic says 西南军区颁发 awarded/issued by Southwest Military Region (no longer exists:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theater_commands_of_the_People's_Liberation_Army#History) then there's what I presume a serial number

Serial number, or date?

Oh yes, think you must be right, only squinted at the smaller pics. Would fit with the Southwest Region too I think, it went quite early post '49.  ETA and of course 8.1 is army day when you might be handing out the gongs.

Thanks both. The first is not a reverse of the second though. I can't post the reverse of the second as the file is too big. I've also got this one if anyone can shed any light...

That one reads 国民党陆军大学毕业证章 in traditional characters - medal for graduating from the Kuomintang Army University.

ETA Just checking if that meant the famous Whampoa Academy but that seems to have been called a 官校 not a university. Maybe someone else will know.

Thank you, Jim. It would be amazing if it was Whampoa. I wonder whether anyone else can confirm/discount this. I'm just a bit gutted that I can't post the other picture as you have been so helpful with these.

That reads:

冀鲁豫 Hebei-Shandong-Henan (named using single character abbreviations)

第三军分区颁赠 Third Military District - awarded

1943

i.e. awarded by the HSH Third Military District.

Says here: https://baike.baidu.com/item/鲁西北军分区 the district was given this name in July 1941 after an amalgamation of higher divisions and in July '43 was put under the control of the Southern Hebei (? 冀南) Military Region then later renamed again. A division from this district was later involved in the famous Battle of Jinan: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Jinan
