Tomsima Posted May 8, 2018 at 03:06 PM Report Posted May 8, 2018 at 03:06 PM (preceding clause for reference: 在國際金融危機中,發展中國家受到的衝擊十分嚴重, the international financial crisis had a significant impact on developing countries...) 克服國際金融危機影響面臨的困難也十分嚴重。 my problem with this sentence lies in 面臨. Without it, the sentence seems to work fine, and the translation I have seems to treat it as word implied rather than directly used in English: "it is a daunting task for them to overcome the difficulties caused by the international financial crisis" So if the translation were to carry 面臨, how would/should/could it be used? Thanks in advance for anyone able to make things clearer Quote
Jim Posted May 8, 2018 at 04:11 PM Report Posted May 8, 2018 at 04:11 PM It does look a bit superfluous but I presume it's the act of 克服ing the the impact of the crisis that is 面临ing serious difficulties, so more like 'there are also severe difficulties to be addressed in the task of overcoming the effects of the crisis'. 1 Quote

roddy Posted May 8, 2018 at 09:58 PM Report Posted May 8, 2018 at 09:58 PM The official (well, it's on the Foreign Ministry site) translation has: Developing countries have been hit hard by the financial crisis and they find it a daunting task to overcome the difficulties caused by the crisis.
