Earthling Posted June 2, 2018 at 10:47 PM Report Share Posted June 2, 2018 at 10:47 PM How does the name 艾利丝 (Ai Li Si) seem to you? Or is this version better 艾利思? When you see them, what would it mean to you, how do you understand them? The original name I was after is 艾丽丝 but I don't want to use 丽 in my name but still want to keep the tone and transcription Aì Lì Sī. Any suggestions? 889 Posted June 2, 2018 at 11:17 PM Report Share Posted June 2, 2018 at 11:17 PM When I see those names, 艾利丝 especially, I see a foreign woman named "Alice." Or maybe "Elisa." Myself, I suggest foreigners adopt more Chinese-sounding names, but up to you.
Jim Posted June 3, 2018 at 03:33 AM Report Share Posted June 3, 2018 at 03:33 AM You also get the problem that conventionally you'd have the personal name Lisi with the family name Ai which might not be the effect you're aiming for, presuming we are talking about transliterating 'Alice'. If not, ignore me!

889 Posted June 3, 2018 at 12:56 PM Report Share Posted June 3, 2018 at 12:56 PM Let's also point out to the OP that Chinese tend to associate "Alice" with Alice in Wonderland, and that particular Alice is usually written 爱丽丝 ( 愛麗絲 ).
