I looked up the piece and see it has a title taken from the Laozi: https://americanart.si.edu/artwork/he-who-obtains-has-little-he-who-scatters-has-much-lao-tzu-6th-century-bc-chinese-moralist

Makes me think it's 少 http://www.zdic.net/z/18/js/5C11.htm, possibly repeated (ETA though really not convinced about that), as the Chinese for the quote is 少则得多则惑.  Not at all sure though.

I think this is 慷 (see attached image)

 

It has to either be a 忄or a 片 on the side. This is almost certainly not 少 unless there is some variant I haven't come across.

 

It /might/ be the artists own way of writing a 愿 with the 心 as a 忄, but unlikely.

 

It's definitely not a 惊 as this is 驚 and its 草書 forms almost always stem from the latter
