New Members godsjoker Posted June 29, 2018 at 06:54 PM New Members Report Posted June 29, 2018 at 06:54 PM Hello. I’m trying to come up with a name that both has a similar pronounciation to my actual name but that also has a meaning. Also, considering I might spend a year in China, I also hope it sounds as natural as possible. The surname will probably be 孔。 What I came up is: 旦凉 霮凉 萏凉 But I don’t know how they’d sound to a native speaker, and I’m concerned about the “dan” part sounding like 蛋 when speaking which would probably make it silly? And that 凉 might sound negative or something. I thought of using 寒 but I can’t come up with anything. I also thought of 旦冷 but I’m not too sure about it. Advice? Opinions? Quote

squailee Posted June 29, 2018 at 09:16 PM Report Posted June 29, 2018 at 09:16 PM 凉 is uncommon in Chinese names. If you want to keep "liang" sound, then I would suggest 良 instead of 凉. The meaning of 良 is good or beautiful. 1 Quote

New Members godsjoker Posted June 30, 2018 at 07:16 AM Author New Members Report Posted June 30, 2018 at 07:16 AM @squailee the problem is that I want to keep the meaning as well. The sound can slightly change, but I need something related to cold. I know 雪 is more common but it doesn’t mean anything to me. I need something about coldness. What about 冷? Quote
arrow Posted June 30, 2018 at 08:37 AM Report Posted June 30, 2018 at 08:37 AM 丹 would be common choice for the first character, used a lot in girl names. 宁,妮,玲,灵,伶,绫 would be perfect matches for the second character. Yours are just unlikely to appear in names, can't say wrong but definitely peculiar. 1 1 Quote
Pandarow Posted July 1, 2018 at 09:53 AM Report Posted July 1, 2018 at 09:53 AM @godsjoker, as @squailee mentioned, 凉, 冷, 蛋, 霮, 萏 are rarely used in Chinese Name, 旦 is used but I am not sure whether it is used that much. People always use Chinese characters with more positive meanings in name. I just used this Chinese Name generator to find a Chinese name for you, for Daniela, there are some good choices like 宁乐, 宁来, 宁林. Quote
