Shelley Posted July 20, 2018 at 11:03 PM Report Posted July 20, 2018 at 11:03 PM Hello and welcome to the forum. The first character is 貴 guì meaning expensive, valuable, precious. The second character is 任rèn meaning official post, office as in a job, it is also a measure word for girlfriends. I can't find anything that they mean when used together so what you have is "expensive official post" pretty much meaningless together. I may be wrong and there is some other meaning to it I have not come across, someone else might know. As it is a measure word for girlfriends it could be that the intention was something along the line of "precious girlfriend" but that is not what it actually says. I am intrigued as to what she told you it means to her, is there a short version of her story? Hope this helps. Quote
New Members TK Posted July 21, 2018 at 01:21 PM Author New Members Report Posted July 21, 2018 at 01:21 PM short story is basically something like it is her duty or responsibility to know her own worth Quote
陳德聰 Posted July 22, 2018 at 09:22 AM Report Posted July 22, 2018 at 09:22 AM Well it certainly doesn’t mean that. The closest I can get to a poetic reading of it is “precious responsibility,” which is not a particularly salient reading of the two characters. It reads more like vague nonsense. It’s great that it has a deeper meaning to her, and seems like that’s what she cares about. It is kind of like a secret code to everybody else, like if I tattooed the two words “noble any” on my body in English and then told people what it means to me is that anything I choose to do is noble. 3 1 Quote
