fenlan Posted August 21, 2005 at 01:01 AM Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 01:01 AM Please find attached a list of the Ministry of Education's 3500 commonly used characters. This is divided into 2 parts: the first 2500 are to be mastered in primary school, the next 1000 in secondary school. Quote
syu.edu Posted August 21, 2005 at 12:08 PM Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 12:08 PM hello, i can open your link, but it just shows me some red and black dots. seems like my system is not supporting this "chinese characters in pdf's" stuff? Quote
roddy Posted August 21, 2005 at 12:37 PM Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 12:37 PM Acrobat Reader should automatically download the simplified fonts it needs. The list is arranged by character strokes, and there's no pinyin or translation provided. Roddy Quote
fenlan Posted August 21, 2005 at 12:52 PM Author Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 12:52 PM Roddy, I am wondering if people on the list would be interested in a gradual collaborative effort to provide pinyin and translations for the 3500 characters? I attach the list as a Unicode text file as an alternative to the PDF. Quote
roddy Posted August 21, 2005 at 12:56 PM Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 12:56 PM Ask them then I'm dubious about the value of character based 'most frequent' lists - word lists are, for my money, much more useful - although obviously both are handy. Either way, I suspect you could run that list through either Cedict or Adso and come out with a list of pinyin and meaning reasonably easily. Roddy Quote
chenpv Posted August 21, 2005 at 02:39 PM Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 02:39 PM waa, are those characters required in HSK? thats a tough job for you guys though. Quote
syu.edu Posted August 21, 2005 at 03:24 PM Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 03:24 PM thanks a lot fenlan. Quote
fenlan Posted August 21, 2005 at 03:37 PM Author Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 03:37 PM Roddy, I never thought of that. I'll try ADSO - I tried it and it didn't work. ADSO can't work with more than a paragraph of text. Chenpv, HSK requires 2905 characters (not the 3500 that the ministry of education requires for Chinese children). Roddy has a list somewhere. Quote
Quest Posted August 21, 2005 at 08:01 PM Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 08:01 PM There you go, list with adostrans pinyin and translation. Rename to html Quote
fenlan Posted August 21, 2005 at 08:09 PM Author Report Posted August 21, 2005 at 08:09 PM Thank you, Quest. For some reason, I was having trouble adsotating such a large file. Quote
