New Members Bihem Posted August 20, 2018 at 12:50 PM New Members Report Posted August 20, 2018 at 12:50 PM Received an offer for a design position in shanghai, however I lost my original bachelors diploma. Is there any way I can still go through this process? My university can send a letter notarized verifying my graduation, transcripts etc and whatever else they need, Just worried. Never thought Id be working overseas and never thought to replace it; in the US, we don't need to show it. Quote

Baby Charlie Posted August 21, 2018 at 08:56 AM Report Posted August 21, 2018 at 08:56 AM It is my understanding that they need the original diploma to authenticate at the US Embassy and the PRC Embassy. I just went through this process and finished my authentication process yesterday. I have not seen any of my diplomas in years and did not really know where they were located at. I asked the agent who did my documents if they could use sealed transcripts, the answer was no! OK, I will just order a new diploma from my graduate school. The school's policy is that the diploma will say copy on the front as it is not the one that was given to me when I graduated. OK, ask agent if this is a problem for any of the steps in this process? PRC embassy will not take a diploma that says "copy" on it. OK, well, I have 3 degrees, all three schools will sell me a new copy but they all will say "Copy" on them :( Next step, let's see if my ex-husband has any papers of mine. He does! yeah! So, my original graduate diploma was used. So, the answer to your question is no! Contact your school and order another one and hope it doesn't say "Copy" or something along those lines. China is really cracking down on Z visa's and the requirements to get one. I also hope your criminal record check comes back clean! As that is also grounds to deny a Visa! Good luck! 1 Quote
shortcutz-china Posted January 2, 2020 at 07:23 AM Report Posted January 2, 2020 at 07:23 AM If you do have a good quality colour scan or picture of the diploma it is possible to authenticate the diploma via the Chinese Ministry of Education. The original document is not required for this process. Quote
suMMit Posted January 2, 2020 at 07:56 AM Report Posted January 2, 2020 at 07:56 AM I had the same situation. My college issued me a new "copy" for around 80$. It took 2 weeks or so because the calligraphy had to be done by hand. It does NOT say "copy" on it. 1 Quote
ChTTay Posted January 2, 2020 at 01:48 PM Report Posted January 2, 2020 at 01:48 PM I ordered 2 new copies from my University when I thought I’d lost my original. They’re all the same. You cannot tell any of them are original or not. Quote

I was going to do this recently but was told (a) I should supply the original, as expected, and (b) it would take at least 15 working days and that was too long for my circumstances, so I didn't do it. I was also told that once you've done it you get a digital certified copy you can use again and again. This is via http://zwfw.cscse.edu.cn/ Quote
shortcutz-china Posted January 2, 2020 at 03:21 PM Report Posted January 2, 2020 at 03:21 PM Dear mungouk, I can assure you: Yes, this is accurate. For authentication via the Ministry of Education the original paper document is not required. The application is done via an online process during which only a colour scan is required. Since no paper documents are submitted at all there is no need and not even any possibility to submit your original paper document at this stage. The process takes between 10 and 20 business days, depending on where you received your degree: 10 business days (Canada, US), 15 business days (UK, France, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore), 20 business days (most other countries). The final document is a digital document in Chinese that can be reused at any time. 1 1 Quote

This isn't true of all universities. I'm in Australia and I got a new original of my father's degree (for sentimental reasons as he had passed away) and it has the word DUPLICATE printed on it. Quote
