philipbeckwith Posted August 31, 2018 at 12:57 AM Report Share Posted August 31, 2018 at 12:57 AM How to say "(person/team) is in the lead"? The situation is that two people or teams are competing, nobody has one yet, but one person/team is ahead. I am looking for the simplest way to communicate this without circumventing. I know of 领先, but I am unsure of how to use it. Thanks!
Jim Posted August 31, 2018 at 03:30 AM Report Share Posted August 31, 2018 at 03:30 AM You can just use 领先 on its own; stick it in a search engine and you'll find plenty of examples, e.g.: http://slide.sports.sina.com.cn/t/slide_2_794_188520.html/d/1#p=1 "温网小德暂时2-1领先纳达尔" I picked that because i was also looking for a phrase I've seen, 暂时领先 "temporarily holding a lead", which you see/hear a fair bit. That's used in the linked story too and you can see the 暂时 appears in the title too. To see 领先 all on its own you have e.g.: https://bbs.hupu.com/20933522.html where Man City have an eleven point lead in the league table. So for your specific case I'd be tempted to say, "Person A暂时领先Person B" or just "Person A暂时领先"
