SunnySideUp Posted September 30, 2018 at 04:26 PM Report Posted September 30, 2018 at 04:26 PM Hello all, I'm currently in Kunming and have been to five bookstores so far, but haven't been able to find anything from Mandarin Companion. No one had even heard of these books, although they do sell other graded readers like Chinese Breeze and Rainbow Bridge. I'll be traveling around a bit and will also go to Beijing later, so any pointers where to possibly find them would be very much appreciated. I'd prefer to buy them in a store and wouldn't want to order online while in China. Thanks so much! Quote
Popular Post Rufus Posted January 9, 2019 at 10:31 PM Popular Post Report Posted January 9, 2019 at 10:31 PM Hey Sunny! Wow, I feel so bad at not seeing this sooner. I am the publisher of Mandarin Companion and last last year we finally got a distributor to pick us up in China. Funny enough, unless you are a Chinese company, it can difficult to find a distributor in China, especially in the educational field. We've talked to a lot of the university presses at different conferences over the years, but they seem to look upon our books with skepticism and at times disapproval. It seems they think our books should be Chinese stories, be filled with exercises and quizzes, and be aligned to the HSK. But don't worry, we won't succumb to their pressure! We have distribution now on Amazon's China site. Click here for the link. You can also get our books on Kindle, iBooks, and Kobo. Just need to go to our website for the links. Sorry for the late reply, but I hope this is of help to you or anyone else looking for our books in China! 4 1 Quote
SunnySideUp Posted February 4, 2019 at 04:01 PM Author Report Posted February 4, 2019 at 04:01 PM Hi Rufus, thanks so much for your reply (which I've just seen by chance, so apologies for my late response now)... I'm no longer in China and can now just order via your regular channels like Amazon anyway, but really appreciate your response for future visits to China. I just prefer browsing at an actual bookstore over simply ordering online and was surprised the bookshop employees hadn't even heard of Mandarin Companion... even though they had a bunch of other graded readers. Well for what it's worth I did ask several of them to check their databases just to be sure, so who knows maybe they'll stock some of yours in future Thanks again for your response, really helpful - I had no idea it would be so difficult to find a publisher in the field of education! Looking forward to more of your books 2 Quote
