xuexiansheng Posted October 29, 2018 at 05:35 AM Report Posted October 29, 2018 at 05:35 AM I have always loved Asian art, but find my Classical Chinese skills and recognition of the calligraphy characters rather lacking at the museum. I just found this amazing website and wanted to share with everyone here. Seattle Asian Art Museum: Chinese Painting & Calligraphy. This is exactly what I've always wanted at a museum for breaking through the barrier and getting into all the beautiful scrolls, fans, calligraphy and seals. You can use the website to view the 150 works of art and look at all the scholarship around them. The thing I found most helpful was the "Inscriptions and Seals" tab on the right side. My method for practicing to recognize the calligraphy was to first try to read the calligraphy, then click on the calligraphy to see the characters, then read the English translations. A wealth of information, all free and accessible. If you are learning classical Chinese or studying Asian art and calligraphy, I highly recommend it. Enjoy! 1 3 Quote
Luxi Posted October 29, 2018 at 11:46 AM Report Posted October 29, 2018 at 11:46 AM Fantastic! A beautiful site and a very, very useful resource. I love 'travelling' along scrolls and definitely need help to understand calligraphy - this is a real winner on both counts. Thank you! 1 Quote
