阿童木 Posted December 4, 2018 at 03:32 AM Report Posted December 4, 2018 at 03:32 AM So after reading so much about this in western press in the last few months, I finally got around to seeing if my alipay account has a social score! how do I compare to other chinese-forums sesame citizens, and any tips on how to improve my standing as an upstanding member of PRC society ? 1 Quote
roddy Posted December 4, 2018 at 10:32 AM Report Posted December 4, 2018 at 10:32 AM I've been meaning to post about the social credit score things - are they actually impacting on daily life yet? 1 Quote

Publius Posted December 4, 2018 at 11:23 AM Report Posted December 4, 2018 at 11:23 AM Don't have a score. Doesn't seem to impact me. Quote
889 Posted December 4, 2018 at 01:03 PM Report Posted December 4, 2018 at 01:03 PM There are other ratings around, too. China Mobile rates its customers. (I think I'm one star.) So do many banks. Quote
Xiao Kui Posted December 4, 2018 at 02:02 PM Report Posted December 4, 2018 at 02:02 PM 688 woot, woot! whatever that means. BTW, Sinica recently broadcasted an excellent, informative podcast "Mythbusting China's Social Credit System". I highly recommend it! 1 Quote

dtcamero Posted December 5, 2018 at 11:15 PM Report Posted December 5, 2018 at 11:15 PM ouch! 578 glad this isn't my real credit score ? must be because of all the times i had to educate mainland 留学生 about the 六四事件. Quote
Lu Posted December 6, 2018 at 09:05 AM Report Posted December 6, 2018 at 09:05 AM To my knowledge, the Sesame score (which is in the pictures you are posting) is not the same as the government-rated social credit score. So talking about 六四 and buying diapers instead of booze goes into two different systems with two different scores. 1 Quote
大块头 Posted December 6, 2018 at 12:43 PM Report Posted December 6, 2018 at 12:43 PM There are a lot of misconceptions about the social credit system. China Law Translate has a pretty informative series of articles about it. https://www.chinalawtranslate.com/social-credit-articles/?lang=en 1 Quote
Takeshi Posted January 14, 2019 at 08:05 AM Report Posted January 14, 2019 at 08:05 AM Interesting that you guys have good scores. Do you buy things on Alipay a lot? I thought it would be hard for foreigners to get a good score just because they would use these systems less. Quote
889 Posted January 14, 2019 at 06:12 PM Report Posted January 14, 2019 at 06:12 PM Not surprisingly, WeChat is starting its own credit scoring system: http://www.ejinsight.com/20190114-wechat-pay-pilots-credit-scoring-rival-to-alibabas-sesame-credit/ What is surprising, though, is that your WeChat credit score will depend not just on your own activities, but your friends' as well: "Under the WeChat Pay Points system, credit scores of a person’s friends and personal connections on the WeChat platform will be taken into consideration to calculate the individual’s credit scores." 2 Quote
DavyJonesLocker Posted January 15, 2019 at 12:37 AM Report Posted January 15, 2019 at 12:37 AM First time I checked. Given I practically never use alipay I'm surprised I even have a score at all. I always try link all payments to wechat . Maybe there is something linked to alipay that I have forgotten about. MoBike ? As regards credit scoring I can't see how its impacted my life in China as I always pay for things upfront. The only think I can think of is when I forget to pay my phone bill and I don't get cut off. Another one might be buying goods on taobao without paying from them initially however as far as I'm aware then money his into an inrermediary and then you elect to pay once you are satisfied (or automatically after 10 days if you do nothing?) Car rental might be an issue perhaps but I did rent one in the first year I was in China Then again in the UK I have an average credit score at best. The only major impact on my life was obtaining a mortgage. However to get a very good credit score you need to building up a history of credit and paying it off on time. Quote
889 Posted January 15, 2019 at 12:52 AM Report Posted January 15, 2019 at 12:52 AM You need a score of at least 650 to rent Hellobike without paying the 199RMB deposit. Quote
