Lyrics Project #1: Asshole, I Miss You - Li Yuchun

Androgynous singer-songwriter Li Yuchun of Super Girl fame tells us what it's like to fall in love with not one, but two, different assholes. Towards the end of the song, she wonders if she will fall in love with a third asshole, or if she's become an asshole herself. A cool antidote to the usual sappy love songs you hear in Mandopop.

This is the first installment of the Grand Chinese Lyrics Project.

Chinese title: 混蛋,我想你

Artist: 李宇春

Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYU6s7VxtcA

Genre: Electronic pop

Type of lyrics: monologue

Difficulty: Probably advanced. Some slightly esoteric expressions and one rare character.

Lyrics

chorus:
我想你 我 我 我想你 我想你
我想你
混蛋 我想你 我想你
我想你
我…我 我想你 我想你
我想你
混蛋 我想你 我想你

爱上一个混蛋
在蛮横的青春期
我们一起造作癫狂淋雨
但只有你让我如此执迷
每当烟圈氲成肆意

(chorus)

爱上了两个混蛋
在被残酷亲吻的梦里
我们彼此撕扯灵魂肉体
但只有你让我无法忘记
每当酒精升出欢愉

(chorus)

我会爱上第三个混蛋吗
还是自己已经成为了混蛋
成熟终于让我们变得知己知彼
所剩无几

(chorus)

This has got to be the most problematic line. First of all, 氲 is a rare character, and Pleco doesn’t tell me how it can be used as a verb. My best guess is it means “Every time smoke rings enshroud reckless abandon”?

Forget the English grammar or verb, chinese words could noun, adj, verb etc. freely, everything is interpreted per context , as well as the words position in the whole sentence. Sequence matters the most..

So you figure it is as a verb, perfect!

I attempted a translation here: https://www.notion.so/chicagochinese/c975233f752a4398a3f8cf99523ed2b7?v=7a663eb0510f4046b974a88332735a36

I won’t claim it’s the best translation but I think it’s passable. The biggest problem, though, is the last line: 所剩无几

It means ‘not much left’, but how does it connect with the line before it? Exactly what is in short supply?
