Book Recommendations (Something modernish)

Hi, so I've just finally finished 射雕英雄传，it took me....... about half a goddam year, that was one long book. I've also read 或者, 三体（整个系列）,  and another couple of 余华 (兄弟，第七天）

 

So I think I've had enough of Wuxia for now, I think I'd like to read something a bit more modern, and not too long. 射雕英雄传 really tired me out, I needed to read about 30 pages on my kindle in small text to read 1% of the book. I don't fancy another 3000 page or so read

I'm reading ≪海边的卡夫卡≫ 村上春树 going well. 

I'm just interested in reading from the Chinese language aspect though, and not  the cultural aspect like 或者 or 武侠
