firstly a big hello

I’m dean and this is my first post here ,

recently a friend sent me this WW2 helmet, the marine served in WW2 and freed some Chinese from the Japanese in WW2.
his helmet carries some Chinese writing I believe, any help translating this would be most helpful.
I hope it’s his name in Chinese

thanks in advance

yours

Dean

Does look Chinese but I can only make out one character for certain (和) and another likely, so hesitating to make a translation.

the first one looks like 屎, which means shit.

That was my other one but hesitated to mention it without context :D

Not really, you need to take individual pictures of each character, as some are so faded its pretty much impossible to tell when they are always at a curved angle

You also need to play around with the lighting. It looks like you're using a flash, and that can tend to wash out colours. Natural shaded sunlight is best.
