大块头 Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:24 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:24 PM That's a neat trick @889. Did you do that with Photoshop or something? I posted these pictures to the HelloTalk.
889 Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:25 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:25 PM Yes, just playing around wih the colour balance, saturation, and contrast to bring out the script.
Dlezcano Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:26 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:26 PM According to the photo with the green lines, I would say the text reads (from right to left) 照和喫屎, which means "eat shit Showa", but the first character should be 昭 and not 照, so I am not sure al all if it is written wrongly or if I did any mistake. 1
889 Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:30 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:30 PM I think it's a good guess that the four characters read the same on both places, but that means you have to read the one inscription left to right.

889 Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:50 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:50 PM Like I said, it's pretty clear those four characters (only three of which are visible) are the same as the characters on the other photo.
Dlezcano Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:52 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2019 at 09:52 PM that is exactly the same writing read from down to top, which is actually very weird for Chinese language. My guess is that a non native copied it from somewhere.
889 Posted December 10, 2019 at 10:49 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2019 at 10:49 PM "My guess is that a non native copied it from somewhere." Except that writing 照 for 昭 is the sort of mistake a native speaker might make. Someone blindly copying 昭 from somewhere isn't going to mistakenly add 四点火. 大块头 Posted December 10, 2019 at 11:05 PM Report Share Posted December 10, 2019 at 11:05 PM The non-native copying characters has to get the characters from somewhere. Perhaps a native-speaker mistakenly wrote the wrong character someplace else and this soldier copied it onto his helmet.
Dawei3 Posted December 11, 2019 at 04:27 AM Report Share Posted December 11, 2019 at 04:27 AM The varied abilities of those on this forum always impresses me (in this case, 889's). I had no idea how to enhance the image to bring out the characters. It was cool reading the forum & watching the characters emerge from the helmet.
